We went to a wizarding weekend in Ithaca, New York and it was amazing. The whole town transforms into a wizard world. They have all sorts of classes, from dueling, wand use, potions, writing, themed crafts etc... It used to be called Harry Potter weekend, but it got in trouble for copyright stuff. We made our kids capes and wands, bought them some Harry Potter shirts at Target and had a blast that weekend. Here is how we made the wands and capes. We were running short on time so we had to make sure they were quick and easy to make. We also made some scarves, but I will save those for another time.
Here are my kids in their getups. Aren't they cute?
Supplies for the Wand:
- Chopstick
- Hot glue
- Acrylic paint
How to make the wand:
- Warm up the glue gun. When the gun is hot, take the chopstick and apply the hot glue liberally all over the chopstick creating lots of ridges. Be careful not to touch the glue, it will be hot.
- Let the glue cool down.
- When the glue is dry pick a color to paint the wand. Paint the whole wand. The possibilities for color combos and patterns are endless. The wand can be truly unique.
- Let the wand dry and then it is ready for use!
Supplies for the Cape:
- Black piece of fabric
- Clasp to close the cape
- Scissors
How to make the cape:
- Cut the fabric in the shape of a cape. Cut a semi circle with a semi circle inscribed.
- Attach the clasp at the top either by glue or sewing it on. I sewed it on.
- And done, literally five minutes.
So adorable! Thank you so much for sharing and participating this week! Its so fun to see all of the magical projects!
