Crayola Colored Sticks: What's Inside the Box

Crayola Color Sticks are some of our favorite coloring items in this house, and yes I say that for everything, but this is really true.  My husband bought me a box years ago, but we recently discovered how amazing they are recently.  We visited the Crayola Store in Kansas City, there is a place for children to color in the store.  And what do they have in that area? Not just crayons like other places, but colored sticks.  They were all broken in half and really amazing. The top has 5 sides and can be used to draw fine lines.  The pencil part can be used to make rubbings, they turn out very nice.  My husband is quite the artist and was able to draw so many things with them.  He liked them so much he went home and bought a box on Amazon.  He did not buy them at the Crayola store because they were very pricey there.  We keep them in our Sunday bag and they come to church with us every week.  The box is starting to get beat up, but no colors have been broken yet.  I like using them better when they are broken in half, but I do not want to break these in half because they would be harder to store and would not look as pretty.

18 Count Crayola Pip-Squeaks Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

Aren't the Crayola Pip-Squeaks colored pencils the cutest things you have ever seen?  They are the cutest things I've ever seen.  It took me a while to buy them, but I am so glad I did.  They are thicker than normal pencils and have the coolest crayon sharpener ever.  Up to this point Crayola had only been suing the pip-squeak name for markers, but they expanded it to colored pencils.  These are the only non marker pip-squeaks I have seen.

As a side note, I was extremely glad the name of the colored pencil is on the back of the box.  Since this is my least favorite packaging I was glad I did not have to open it, even though I want to to color with them.

Crayola Disney Junior 8 count themed boxes: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola Disney Junior 8 count themed boxes are super cute! They were made in 2014 but were not featured in stores until January 2015. I unfortunately missed the original release of the boxes, and saw them on eBay later.  Luckily a collector friend sent me these.  I hope to find some more, because my daughter kids absolutely love this series of boxes, much more than the original set, of which I have plenty of extras.

Crayola Gel Markers and Gel FX crayons: What's Inside the Box

I love coloring on black and dark paper, and these Crayola Gel markers and Gel FX crayons make it super easy to do. When the strokes made on paper with the marker dry, the color lightens.  This process can be seen visually and is very fun for kids to watch. The Gel FX markers and crayons came out in 2001 and the markers are still being in 2015.

Top markers by Stacy Hodges.

I am so excited to also feature the crayon box from Stacy Hodges crayon collection.  We found each other on the facebook group and she has a lot of Crayola products I do not have and has taken some pictures to share. I am so excited to feature some of her collection on the website along with mine!  I wish I had some of my own crayons to try out, it sounds like they would be really fun to color with on dark paper.

Crayola eXtreme colors colored pencils, markers & twistables: What's Inside the Box

I love bright colors and I love Crayola eXtreme colors ultra-bright colored pencils, markers, and twistables.   They make very bright marks on the paper with the tag line "Color on the Wild Side".  There are 8 pencils, markers, and twistables in each package.  They did not use the same colors in the packages. The pencils do not have a purple, but an extra red color. The colored pencils and twistables are very similar and only vary by the Arctic Lime and Frostbite colors. By the way I love when there is a theme to Crayola art supplies and they come in different drawing mediums.

Pip-Squeaks Washable Writers: What's Inside the Box

The Pip-Squeaks Washable Writers are so cute.  My son is in love with them and has been since he first saw them.  They feature faces of the different pip colors.  They also expand from small to big. Te tip is different than most pip-squeaks, it is a fine tip, the other pip-squeaks are broad tips.

I have not opened these yet, because of the packaging.  I think Crayola really needs to stop making this packaging, because it is hard to store and once opened they are everywhere.  I will probably end up opening them soon however because I really want to color with them!

Crayola 24 Count Gold Medal School Crayons: What's Inside the Box

The No 242 Crayola Gold Medal School Crayons were first made in 1950.  There are not a lot of boxes with the Gold Medal on the front of the box.  I got these from a friend.  It is interesting to note that Crayola was thinking about writing on fabric way back in the 1950's when this box was made.  On the back of the box it describes how to affix the crayon onto fabric in a process similar to one found in their patents for fabric crayons.

This year also marks the year that Binney & Smith went from a Company to a corporation.  The front of the box says Inc instead of Co.  My oldest box of crayons which I have not posted yet are from the 40's.  It shows company on the crayon wrappers.

8 Count Crayola Fabric Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Crayola Fabric crayons have been around since 1976.  To color the fabric, draw the colors on a white paper, pressing hard or draw directly on the fabric. The colors will appear lighter than the normal colors.  Place the drawing onto a fabric, a 100% synthetic material, not cotton.  The crayons will wash out of cotton. Follow the instructions on the crayon box to put the design on the fabric.   The colors will be darker once they are placed on the fabric.  I have tried the fabric markers, but I have not tried these yet. I can not wait to find a fun fabric project to color.

8 Count Crayola True to Life Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

I absolutely adore the True to Life series from Crayola. It came out in 2007.  The tips are a "tri-color" tip that "produce the true colors and shades of nature".  This set of colored pencils features famous scenic places from all over the world. The line included crayons, markers and colored pencils.

This was the first set of 8 Count True to Life colored pencils.  It has my least favorite packaging, once opened it stays open.  I really wish Crayola would stop using this packaging. There are also true to life crayons and markers. I would love to see those too!

Crayola Water Color Pencils: What's Inside the Box

Crayola Watercolor pencils can be used in several different ways.  The tip can get wet and then used on a paper, the paper can be wet and then the pencils used on the paper, and finally the pencil can be used and then a paint brush used to spread the color.  I like using a paint brush with these and using the pencil wet.  I like the way the color spreads with these methods.

I had some of the pencils I had when I was young and loved them.  I have a few of the pencils still, but unfortunately not the box. I love the paintbrush on the side of the pencil.

8 Count Crayola Write Start Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola Write Start Colored Pencils are made for little kids.  They are a perfect shape to fit a little kids hand and will not roll as easy when placed on a surface.  The pencils have a thicker leads, and will leave more color when used on a page. They are also cute, with pictures of animals, flowers and food on them. I also love the plain wood design of the pencil.  It makes it look really rustic.  I bought this box a few years ago.

Crayola 50 Count Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

I can not tell you how many years I had Crayola 50 colored pencils on my Christmas list, but it was a long time.  They were very pricey, at least to me back in the day.  I was so excited to get them from my aunt for Christmas when I was in college. Colored pencils are probably my favorite Crayola product ever.  I know I own a lot of crayons, but they make more crayon variations then they do colored pencils.  Pencils are so versatile, they can be pressed soft to make a light line, and pressed harder to make a dark line.  Crayons can be used that way too, but the finished product with a pencil is much smoother and does not leave behind any flakes. When my daughter started coloring with colored pencils and using all my old boxes I decided it was time to get her her own box of 50 colored pencils.  She loves them!

Crayola Gold Medal School Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I was really excited to get this 8 Count Crayola Gold Medal box.  With a little research I found out it was first designed in 1905.  Binney & Smith won a gold medal at the St. Louis world fair in 1904 for their new invention, the An-du-Septic dustless chalk.  The original box was made somewhere around that time.  I am so happy to have this one in my collection. It is interesting that they note on the box that the crayons are permanent and waterproof and "an artist's crayon at scholar's price".

6 Count Crayola Pip-Squeaks Mix 'Ems: What's Inside the Box

Crayola Pip-Squeaks Mix 'Ems are very fun markers.  They can be used to make 36 unique colors.  There are six markers in the set and can be used with one another.  Depending on the desired effect the marker needs to be held a certain way.  To blend them, the marker is held at a 90 degree angle to the paper, to mix them the marker is held at a 45 degree angle to the paper.

I got this box of Pip-Squeaks Mix 'Ems from a friend and was very excited about them.  I have not used them because of the packaging.  It is packaged in my least favorite packaging.  Once the packaging is opened it can not be closed again.  And they are harder to store once opened.

8 Count Crayola Jumbo Crayons: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola Jumbo Crayons are designed for little kids.  They claim that are "easy to hold, hard to break!"  I do not know if I would say this is necessarily the case.  I have many broken Jumbo crayons at my house.  But I would say that my kids really like these crayons.   We really like these crayons because they are easy to color with.

The Jumbo crayons have been made as earlier as 1976 with many in the US, Mexico and Canada.  My daughter was at an age where she destroyed all the boxes and took off all the wrappers from all the crayons.  I bought this box to add to my collection for my kids not to destroy. This is the only box I have, but I would love to find more.

5 Count Crayola Window Crayons: What's Inside the Box

The colors in the Crayola window crayons are a lot more vibrant than the window markers and are very fun to use. The red also colors more like a pink which my daughter loves.

This blog post contains affiliate links.

We first used the Crayola window crayons when they came in the My Color Is boxes.  At the time I did not realize they did not make the crayons in pink, orange, and purple.  I let my two year old son use them and he went a little crazy with them.   However they get damaged quickly by a two year old and I regretted letting him use the collectible colors.  I bought this box for him to use. His favorite thing is to bang the crayons and leave crayon shavings on the window.  He also thought he could draw on the walls and the floors.  Fortunately a little window cleaner left on for a minute or so got rid of these stains. I was lucky walls are more porous and can absorb the color, but it did not.  The window crayons are a lot like the slick stix and tips go down quickly like lipstick. They also flake off when on the window onto clothes and everything else. I found myself walking on chunks of crayons later. It takes a while to take them off the window, many many quirts and paper towels, but it did come off. For these reasons I would recommend these crayons for responsible kids, my daughter, 4 is responsible and handled them well.  I would let the two year old use the window markers instead.

10 Count Crayola Power Line Scented Markers: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola Power Lines Scented Project Markers can draw very thick lines, but they can be used to draw thin lines too. Even though it is not emphasized on the front of the package these markers are washable.  And to add to it they are scented too!  Double win.  I really hope that this means Crayola is making it's way back into the scented market and some scented crayons appear soon.

These markers are really nice and have a very nice wrapper on printed on the outside, in color.  They also feature all the names of the markers, something Crayola does not always do and drives me crazy when they do not. I am really excited for these markers.
