Crayola Tri-Color Markers: What's In the Box

The Washable Tri-Color Markers are very neat markers, there are three tips in one.  They are similar to the Tri-Color True to life colored pencils and markers. They colors are: 5 shades, Bold Tones, Neon Brights, Royal Hues, Tropic Shades, Classic Colors. I have been looking at these for a while in the store and was so excited to get them in my hands.  I opened the packaging to look for at the markers and will be using them soon.  I have a feeling my kids are really going to like them.

Crayola 72 Count Colored Pencils Color Escapes: What's Inside the Box

Overview and Review
Crayola came out with 72 colored pencils color escapes in 2016.  I remember the day they announced them, I was so excited! Colored Pencils up til now had only come in 50, 60, 64 (with no names) and 100 colored pencils, with the 100 colored pencils only containing 60 unique names.  This set contains 72 unique colors. I think it is so they compete with brands such as Prismacolor. Coloring with colored pencils is one of my favorite things and I love I will have even more colors. I am excited to use these with all the adult coloring books I have and will get this year! The packaging is white to go along with the white theme for adult coloring.

Crayola Changeable Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Crayola came out with a series of crayons called Changeables which consisted of  6 crayons that could change color with a color change crayon.  Crayola later made OverWriters and Color Switcher markers in the 2000's which did a similar thing with markers.  The markers used different ph's to change the color. The crayons probably change in similar ways.  The patent is not listed on the back.  I will have to find it.

Crayola True Blue Heroes Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I have been wanting to get my hand on a True Blue crayon for a while now.  The True Blue Heroes Crayola Crayons came out in 1997.  It was a national contest for kids to nominate a Hero in their lives, write an essay, and color a picture about them.  The colors to name appeared in the 64, 96, and 120 crayon boxes.  The box I have here are the ultimate winners for the contest. There was also a wooden box that contained the true blue color. I have pictures of all the artwork and essays at the bottom of the post in the booklet section.

International 24 Count Crayola Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Crayola has been making International crayon boxes for a long time.  I think the earliest international boxes in Crayola's history were made for Canada.  They have expanded to all over the globe.  These are two international boxes that I have, I hope to get some more someday, but for now these will have to do.  These boxes come from Japan and Canada.

The Canadian box is in celebration of 25 years of Staples in Canada.  For this promotion Staples ran a contest flying people to the Staples Center in Los Angeles and awarding them with money.  I love how Crayola works with companies to promote special events.  I know there is a Target box out there somewhere that I would love to get my hands on.  The 24 is in silver lettering. There is nothing on the back that is any different for the celebration.

It is a good thing the bottom of the Japanese box is in English, because other than that I can not understand anything on the box.  Most of the box is written in Japanese. I will have to find someone to translate it for me.  I would love to know what it says.

It is interesting to note in the code numbers instead of a 52-****-0 it is a 52-****- J for Japan or C for Canada.  This is how Crayola designates international boxes within the company.  The contents of the boxes are exactly the same as far as colors are concerned.

Perma Crayons No. 93: What's Inside the Box

I was so happy to pick up the Perma Pressed Gold Medal No. 93 box of crayons on eBay.  They are now my oldest box of crayons. I love the history of Crayola even though I do not have many historic boxes yet. The Perma Perssed fine art crayons came out in 1924 after Binney & Smith (the parent company of Crayola) acquired the crayon line of Munsell Color Company.  They were high quality crayons at an affordable price. Binney & Smith also incorporated the Munsell color wheel into its product lines.  At this time Binney & Smith also had Durel, Cerata, Spectra, Tiny Tops, Crayola, Munsell Crayola, and Munsell Perma crayons.  I feel like their line offerings were so diverse at this time because they were so new on the market, there had never been crayons before.  The crayon offerings have definitely been fine tuned.  Crayola now offers a standard set of crayon brand lines.  They may make specialty crayons, but they all fall under the Crayola brand.

Colors of Washington DC Crayola Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Crayola made a line of crayons in 2002 called the Colors of Baltimore and made of box called Colors of Washington DC in 2004.  These crayons featured all the iconic Washington DC items such as the White House and the cherry blossoms, that are so gorgeous in the spring.  The boxes releases coincided with the opening of the Crayola Works at the Arundel Mills mall in Hanover, Maryland. It opened in June 21, 2002 and closed in 2004.  It was the precursor to Crayola Experience which is now has locations in Easton, Pennsylvania, Orlando, Florida, and the Mall of America.  It was created because the Crayon Factory and Crayola tours in Easton Pennsylvania were so popular.  I heard there was a 2 year waiting list to go on a tour the Crayola factory.  They do not allow tours anymore.  It is my dream to tour it someday.

Crayola Kids' Gum Toothbrushes and Flossers: What's Inside the Box

Crayola has recently partnered with Gum to make a line of dental products.  We have love these products.  The toothbrushes stick to the wall and stand up by themselves in the bathroom.  My kids also love all the fun colors. The toothbrushes have a suction cup on the bottom and can stand on their own. These flossers are super fun to use too.  Our dentist says we need to have the kids floss their teeth.  These ones are Grape flavored. There is also a toothpaste they make.  My son especially likes the toothpaste. I will post it when I have pictures of it.

I have seen the brushes come in a variety of packaging and styles over the years. I would get pictures of them all, but my kids love using them whenever I buy them.

Crayola ColorClicks 20 Count Markers: What's Inside the Box

I found the Crayola Color Clicks Markers at the Crayola Store in Kansas City.  They are very fun to draw with and connect to one another with the caps.  I have not seen them in many stores, maybe other stores have not chosen to distribute them. My kids have already had a lot of fun playing with them.  This would also keep the markers from getting lost since they connect to one another.

Crayola 100 Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

Overview and Review
The 100 count Colored Pencils box is a big deal for Crayola. It is very exciting because it contains the largest selection of colored pencils Crayola has ever made!

Up until now the most colored pencils that have been available were 64 small colored pencils and were not named. The biggest box with named long colored pencils was a 50 count box.  The 100 count box along with Crayola Escapes 72 count colored pencils is ideal for people that want lots of colors from Crayola.

The new colors that were added to the 100 count box are:

Brick Red, Jazzberry Jam, Ruby Red, Coral Reef, Cantaloupe, Sizzling Sunset, Light Orange, Heat Wave, Orange Circuit, Harvest God, Unmellow Yellow, Daffodil, Lemon Glacier, Palm Leaf, Olive, Arctic Lime, Granny Smith Apple, Fern, Spring Frost, Shamrock, Tropical Rainforest, Absolute Zero, Blue Bolt, True Blue, Wild Blue Wonder, Cornflower, Outer Space, Indigo, Blue Violet, Purple Heart, Plum, Purple Mountains' Majesty, Lilac, Royal Purple, Red Violet, Mauvelous, Razzle Dazzle Rose, Pink Flamingo, Winter Sky, Tickle Me Pink, Blush, Fiery Rose, Fuzzy Wuzzy, Cocoa, Copper, Antique Brass, Khaki, Almond, Apricot, Beaver, Dark Chocolate, Timber Wolf, Warm Gray, Ash

The following colors were removed from the 100 count box: gold and silver. Why? I have no idea, those are fairly popular colors.

Be very careful when picking the 100 count box in the store. The only box that really contains 100 different colored colored pencils, is the box that says "100 different colored pencils". If it says "The Big 100", it only contains 60 different colored pencils.

Crayola Stampers Markers: What's Inside the Box and History

I also recently was able get pictures for many historic Crayola MiniStampers markers. The Stampers started in 1994.  Stamping was big back then and I imagine Crayola wanted to get in on the trend.  In 1997 and 1998 Crayola introduced Stampers for all kinds of themes. Crayola made; expressions, space shapes, animal shapes, pet shapes, nature shapes, party, four seasons and fun shapes. It seemed Crayola was very excited about their expression line and made them for everything.  They probably cut back on them because they realized they had too many.  I am so excited to find this history for these markers.

I love the Crayola Stamper markers both the Shopkins ones and the mini Expression markers. These ones are both currently on the market. The markers have little stamps of different shapes on the tips of the markers. They add some really nice elements to artwork.  We used the mini Stampers on my daughters potty training chart when she was potty training.  She still keeps that chart under her bed and is super proud of it.  The Shopkins markers feature some of the classic Shopkins unique symbols including the S for Shopkins and the shopping bag.  There markers are a lot of fun and I definitely recommend them for anyone with kids, and they are washable!

Andy Warhol Tomato Soup Crayons: What's Inside the box

I picked up the Andy Warhol Tomato Soup crayons when I saw them for sale on the Museum of Modern Art's website.  I did not know much about Andy Warhol before this.  I am inspired by what I have learned about him, especially his fascination with Campbell's soup and Coca Cola.  I am inspired because that is what I do with crayons.  I do not draw them, but I love taking pictures and making art with them, making the ordinary things in our world come to life.  That is why I started this website, to document all the crayons I have, they are art to me.  He was gone before Crayola started their experimental crayons in the 1990's, but he probably would have loved all the experimentation Crayola did those years, as I do. I love his use of color also. I love color, that is why I love crayons.  I love experimenting taking pictures with color.  He loved experimenting with colors and would often take the same image and make it different colors.  I wonder how his art would have changed with the advent of Photoshop.  It would have been a lot easier to make different colors of his paintings.

Melissa and Doug Learning Mat Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I found the Melissa and Doug Learning Mat Crayons at the Crayola Store in Kansas City, Missouri.  I bought them because we have four of the Learning Mats from Melissa & Doug.  They remind me of  bathtub crayons from Crayola. The Learning mats feature one side that is colored and one side that is not.  The intention is for the kids to use these crayons over and over on the non colored side to learn about ABC's, numbers, maps and planets.

24 Count Disney Parks Princess Character Figurine Crayons: What's Inside the Box

My husband surprised me with the Disney Princess 24 Crayon Figurines when he went to a conference earlier this year.  It was in Anaheim and he picked up these crayons from Disneyland for me.  He knows me well.  There are Tiana, Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Jasmine, in three different colors. The princesses are on one end of the crayon and the crayon tip on the other. They must have had a special casting process to get the crayon wax just right. The princesses can only be placed in certain spots in the packaging, so if you get them out make sure to put them back in the right spot.  We love these crayons. They are so much fun to play and draw with.  I would definitely recommend them.

27 Count Twistables Crayons with Special Effects Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Teachers rave about the Twistable crayons, but my 6 and 3 year old may still be a little young for them.  They love that the crayons can be twisted whenever kids run out of crayon to color with. I pulled out some twistables and my son has fun pulling out the lead and breaking it.  Teachers really like them because they do not have to be sharpened, they do not have a wrappers and can always be used.  I think we will like them better as my kids get older.  This box includes some special effect crayons.

Crayola Paint Brushes: What's Inside the Box

I bought the Crayola Paint Flat brushes to go with the Crayola paint we have because my son loves to paint! We ended up not needing them right now and using some others because I bought another paint kit at Target that had brushes in it too that was on clearance.  I love the different sizes of the paint brushes. These ones are flat and will produce smooth lines when used. The side of the brush can be used for detail work.  It is useful to have the different sizes to do different sized brush strokes.

Clinique Limited Edition Crayola Chubby Sticks Lipstick: What's Inside the Box

Today I found out that Clinique has partnered with Crayola to make a lipstick called Chubby Sticks.

I have always said that Crayola needs to make lipstick.  People have been trying to make Crayola crayons into lipstick for years. They have a chapsick, but no lipstick until now. Some of Crayola's crayons, like the Slick Stix remind me of lipstick.  And Clinique just so happens to be my favorite makeup brand.  It is a match made in heaven.  Janet Pardo was the developer from Clinique that developed the Chubby Sticks.  All the colors of lipstick besides Tickle Me Pink were existing Clinique colors.  I wonder how close the lipstick colors match the crayon colors. They came out with four different sets of chubby stick lipsticks. Now to get my hands on these! They are limited edition and only available until February.

Disney Themed Sidewalk Chalk: What's Inside the Box

I found the 8 count Crayola Disney themed sidewalk chalk first at Target. They only carried the Hulk version of the longest time.  I picked up the Captain America chalk at the Crayola Store. It is super crazy that stores do not carry an entire line of a collectible product. I am still missing a marker in the Pip-Scents collection because it was never sold in the United States. I do not know if there are any other 8 count chalk boxes out there.
Sidewalk chalk is an essential outdoor play toy for kids.  The chalk is bright and colorful and themed to the different character sets. My kids and the neighbor kids stay engaged for a long time with the chalk.
